All about Combination Skin Type & It’s Correct Care
What is a Combination Skin Type?
Combination skin type is neither dry nor oily, it’s generally a mixture of both. It also means you have two or more different skin types on different areas of your face at one time.
So, you need to pay some extra attention while buying any skincare product because they have to be soothing for your skin and should not irritate your skin.
How to know if you have Combination Skin Type?
If you have a Combination skin type, you will notice oil on your T-zone (your forehead, nose and chin area) few minutes or an hour after washing your face. The other parts like your cheek area would be normal or dry, and it usually varies from person to person.
Method: Pat a clean tissue or bloating paper on your face 20 minutes or an hour after washing your face. If it catches the oil on your T-zone only then it’s confirmed that you have Combination skin type.
Morning Skincare Routine Tips for Combination Skin
Cleanser | Face wash
Always use a gel-based or mild foaming cleanser or face wash. You want that oily feeling especially on your T-zone to go away and feel fresh. So, Be gentle towards it and choose your skincare products wisely.
It’s usually recommended to use the mild cleanser or face wash twice a day for keeping your skin clean and healthy looking. Also make sure make sure to read the ingredients list on the package while buying.
A few ingredients could be skin drying and other could be oily for your T-zone. You don’t want your cheek area to look even more dry or your T-zone even more oily. So, it’s always good to go for a mild cleanser or face wash which is neither too drying for cheek area nor too oily for your T-zone.
Avoid harmful ingredients such as SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Parabens and Phthalates etc.
Note: Try Avoiding regular bath soaps to wash your face. They could be really drying and irritating for your skin.

A good Toner not only unclogs and shrinks pores, but also hydrates your facial skin and makes it look fresh and youthful due its active anti-oxidant ingredients. Always use alcohol free toners because the toners or face mists that has alcohol in them could be really skin drying especially your cheek area.
As the temperatures increases, people with combination skin are prone to break outs, especially in cities with high pollution. So, it’s advisable to include a good toner in your skincare routine. Go for a good toner with natural astringent (such as Green Tea or Witch Hazel) present in it.
While applying the toner, must give special attention to T-zone (forehead, nose and chin area). For combination skin type, I highly recommend Avène Thermal Spring Water & Kama Ayurveda’s Pure Rose Water which are great for toning and as a face mist as well. (Discussed below in Face mists)

Don’t forget to apply the sunscreen at least 10-15 mins before you step out in sun, it allows the sunscreen to absorb into the skin really well.

Weekly Skincare Routine Tips for Combination Skin
Along with the Daily Skincare Routine, you need to pamper & provide your skin extra care at least once or twice a week.
Deep clean, exfoliate your skin with a good Face Scrub or Exfoliator, and nourish your skin with a Face Mask (rinse off or peel off or facial sheet mask) once a week for brighter, fresher & younger looking skin.
Exfoliation or scrubbing is required to get rid of white heads, black heads and dead skin cells. It stimulates blood circulation and polishes your skin. Exfoliation opens up the pores and your skin starts breathing by absorbing the goodness of CTM, face pack and masks, night cream easily.
The face scrub I am loving these days is the Jeju volcanic pore scrub foam by Innisfree. It exfoliates the skin the BEST. I highly recommend it.

- Natural Jeju volcanic clusters and red clay are some of the best ingredients for cleaning pores. Jeju volcanic cluster with strong sebum absorption and gives you a poreless skin.
The face masks I like the most are the Facial Sheet Masks by Innisfree or The Face shop because they are great for providing the required hydration, and are soothing for combination skin type.
Also, you can go for the Wash-Off masks, and even can prepare on your own at home. Apply a moisturizing mask to the dry areas and an oil-absorbing clay one to your T-zone once a week. Now this can be done with homemade face masks easily.
